Today is our last day at sea. (June 28th) and tomorrow we will be docking in Copenhagen, one of my favorite cities and my 24 nights on the Disney Magic will have ended. But there is so much to do today before our cruise ends so let's get it going. We are going to have a special surprise today with the songwriters from Frozen.
We even we able to capture a picture with the award winners and they were so gracious to take time to share their experiences with us we are so lucky!
Pictured: Robert Lopez, Linda, Jamie, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Q:
Started the morning by packing, because there are lots of things going on this afternoon and I don't want to miss anything.
Headed off to see Lindsay and Kevin Massey as they have a Q and A session in Fathom's about their journey to Broadway. I am sure I saw Kevin in Tarzan since I saw it when it opened on Broadway and as many times as I've seen Wicked I probably saw Lindsay too. I will have to go back and look at my Playbill's.
Next, we have a great surprise. Oscar and Grammy Award winning songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez have been on board with their two daughters for this cruise and they have arranged to share with all of us their once-in-a-lifetime journey on Frozen in the Walt Disney Theater.
Kristen has also done numerous other projects including writing and producing the music for the 2011 Winnie the Pooh Disney Film. She also has won three Tony awards for Avenue Q and Book of Mormon. She is currently writing music for the Broadway debut of Frozen II and I think she said they had 11 new songs.
Robert has also done numerous other project including co-creating The Book of Mormon and Avenue Q. He is the youngest of only twelve people who have won an Emmy, a Grammy an Oscar and a Tony Award, and the quickest (10 years) to win all four.
They have two daughters Katie and Annie who also performed today singing Do You Wanna Build a Snowman. It was adorable.
Kristen and Robert took us on this once-in-a-lifetime musical journey from Frozen including showing us never before seen storyboards from the development of Frozen. Their journey over the numerous years it took to actually write songs and then how the film actually ended up going in a different direction. At first Anna and Elsa did not like each other and Elsa was an unlikeable character. It took many re-writes and a breakthrough with Kristen one night walking through the park with her husband Robert where she jumped up on a picnic table and was figuring out the whole thing when "Let it Go" was born.
This was the Lopez family's very first ever cruise and I think they have drank the koolaid! They will definitely be back, not only did they love their cruise, I think the girls fell in love with the Oceaneer Club and Lab!
They are headed back home to continue working on music for Frozen II and the new Broadway production of Frozen which they said is scheduled to open in Spring of 2018 I think.
No announcement on the release of the movie for Frozen II.
My friend Jeanna Grace Daniels also got to sing (she had 3 days notice to prepare). She was phenominal. She sang For the First Time in Forever. She is one talented gal and I am privileged to have followed her journey since her first contract with Disney Cruise Line. Chelsea Wargo from the cast also got to perform and she was awesome
I would imagine Jeanna was nervous to sing for the songwriters of Frozen! What an honor to work alongside them and to get to know their family. Congratulations Jeanna on a job well done. You were terrific!
I believe the show was to be 45 minutes to an hour, but they went over an hour and finally had to stop, it could have gone on forever, it was so good.
We then headed off to a quick lunch before attending final Bingo. One winner won close to $9,000. Nobody from our group was lucky.
Run back to the stateroom to finish packing and get ready for dinner and then attend our final dinner in Carioca's. Someone mentioned on the cruise that their favorite restaurant was the one with the beach balls hanging from the ceilings. I finally figured they were talking about the lights in Carioca's. My favorite restaurant: Animator's for sure.
One last celebration for George's birthday!
One last dessert, Celebration Cake for George's birthday:
After dinner we need to get to the Walt Disney Theater so we can get our seats for Disney Dreams: An Enchanted Classic. I love this show. I will miss seeing the cast of Magic 36 every day. They become like extended family especially when we end up spending time together on our excursions.
Next it is time for Til We Meet Again and the famous farewell show held in the atrium. We meet up with many of our character friends and get pictures.
After Til we Meet Again it is off to Phathom's for their famous "If I Were Not Upon the Seas"
Time to wind it down for the night. It is after midnight and still have things to pick up in the stateroom. Not ready to get off the ship tomorrow, that's for sure, but have had a magical 24 nights on the ship.
So for one last time................Goodnight from the Disney Magic.
