Hiking to Pulpit Rock - Stavanger, Norway

Today  we  are visiting Stavanger Norway (June 27th) and we get two surprises.  First all aboard time was 4:45 p.m., but we are now staying until 7 p.m. and second, the King and Queen are in town, so we might get to see them sometime during the day.

We arrive earlier than planned.  All ashore is 8:15 a.m. but the ship is cleared well before 8 and Jamie and Q along with Michael are off as soon as the ship is cleared because they are planning on spending most of the day hiking to Pulpit Rock.

They are on the first ferry to the starting point where they then catch a bus to the head of the trail.  Pulpit Rock is actually called Preikestolen.  It is a steep cliff which rises 1982 feet above the Lysefjorden fjord.  Atop the cliff, there is an almost flat top of about 82 feet by 82 feet.

The hike is 2.4 miles long and is quite hard.  The cliff is over 10,000 years old, formed during the Ice Age.

Of course, Jamie and Q have no problem with the hike because their lives are all about being fit.  They are up to the top in no time at all and get to enjoy the view and scenery before many other tourists are there.  Michael is not far behind them.

This is just a little too adventurous to me.  Can't imagine building up the nerve to dangle my feet over the edge.

Michael enjoys the top:

Meanwhile, while they are hiking, I am wander the streets of Stavanger.  This is my third or fourth visit here.  And I run into King Harald and Queen Sonja while wandering the town along with the Prince and Princess of Norway.  This is the 25th Anniversary of King Harald taking the throne in Norway.  So it is officially called the Silver Jubilee. They are visiting 6 cities throughout Norway to celebrate and we just happen to be in Stavanger the day of their visit.

Did a little souvenir shopping and then headed back to the ship.  Jamie, Q and Michael get back to the ship at 5:30.  They were able to get a video of the band and welcome to the King and Queen in town late this afternoon.

Dinner is in Animator's Palate and is the Animation Magic show.  We all have a great time with our drawings and we are all Guest Animators now.

Next it is off to deck 9 for the Frozen Deck Party.  We have just left port, so we are in the fjords as the party kicks off at 7:45 p.m.  The scenery is stunning.

Now off to the Walt Disney Theater for Hector is Magic!

Last year I spent 34 nights on the Disney Magic (4 back to back cruises) and saw Hector numerous times.  I thoroughly enjoyed his shows and his illusions.  Now I have to say how impressed I was with the changes and updates to his show.  Many performers I see on the ship do the same show year after year, and I have seen the same thing.  For new guests it is great but for repeaters like me, it isn't as exciting when they do the same thing over and over.  But not Hector.  He changed the look of the stage, had new graphics and had created a whole new show compared to last year.  He was awesome.  This show is not to be missed!  I highly recommend it.  His adult show is great too.

We then went to the Variety Show with Taylor Mason in Fathom's at 10:30 p.m.  My daughter has not seen Taylor since the 2004 Christmas Cruise and my son-in-law has never seen him.  They absolutely loved him.  Me....his show was great, but the same show he has done for many years, so I knew all the punchlines to his jokes and songs.

After the Variety Show we stayed for the beginning of the Club Frozen The After-Party for adults.  It was tons of fun and the Walt Disney Theater Dancers came and performed to what else......Let It Go.

Got a picture of the ice sculpture of Olaf in O'Gills on our way out.  He was melting.  Guess it was a little too warm for him!

Well, this is our last port day.  Tomorrow is a day at sea and a day of many things to do (as well as packing) can't believe it is about time to get off the ship.

So, for now..........Goodnight from the Disney Magic!
