Bergin, Norway

Today we are arriving in Bergin, Norway.  It is June 26th.  It is a rainy morning, but just a light rain.  The temperature is comfortable.  We don't arrive in Bergin till after 11 a.m.

Bergin was founded on an old Viking settlement in 1070.  The old wharf and the silhouette of its ancient gables are probably the most familiar images of Norway.

First in the morning we go and visit with Anna and Elsa for our meet n' greet time.  And then we get to visit with Olaf.

Our view going into Bergin this morning.

After we arrive we have an excursion to walk around the city of Bergin and to go to the top of Mt. Floyen.  The Fløibanen funicular in Bergen is one of Norway’s best-known attractions.   We take the 5 minute journey in a funicular vehicle to the top of the mountain where we have incredible views of the city.

We next go on a walking tour of Bergin and enter the old german village.  In the middle of the 14th century, North German merchants who had already been present in substantial numbers since the 13th century, founded the German area in Bergin.

The principal export traded from Bergen was dried cod from the northern Norwegian coast, which started around 1100. Stockfish was the main reason that the city became one of North Europe's largest centers for trade at the time. By the late 14th century, Bergen had established itself as the centre of the trade in Norway. The Hanseatic merchants lived in their own separate quarter of town. Today, Bergen's old quayside Bryggen is on UNESCO's World Heritage Sites.

After visiting the German village, we get on the tour bus and go through the town of Bergin seeing the local sites.

All aboard time is 5:45 p.m., but we are back on board by 5 p.m. as we have a private function which Michael has arranged for his parent's George and Kathy's 50th wedding anniversary.  We quickly get ready and go to the D Lounge for our private reception before dinner.

A family that George and Kathy have become good friends with during the cruise come and join our table.  They are from Ukraine.  During the cruise there is alot of singing in Ukraine.

It is time to go to the Walt Disney Theatre for Disney on Broadway with Stars Set Sail.  Tonight we have Kara Lindsay and Kevin Massey (husband and wife) who are presenting Part of Our World.  Kara starred as Laura in Little House on the Prarie in 2009 (where she met her husband Kevin) and then she starred in Newsies from 2012-2014 making her Broadway debut; then in 2014 she performed as Glinda in Wicked in the National Tour; then in the end of 2014 and into 2015 she performed as Glinda on Broadway.  Her husband Kevin played Almanzo Wilder in Little House on the Prarie where he met Kara.  He also opened on Broadway as Tarzan in Disney's Tarzan and currently is performing in the National Tour of A Gentlemen's Guide to Love and Murder.

They were excellent and both Kara and Kevin intertwined humor and music in their show.  Very enjoyable.

After our show in the Walt Disney Theater we hurry off to see the Gothard Sisters. The Gothard Sisters are from Seattle and perform Celtic music and Irish Dance.  We have stopped to see them several nights during the cruise.  They are very talented on not only the violins and guitars but also with the Irish dances.

After that it has been a really long day so we are off to the stateroom to wind down for the day.   We have a huge day tomorrow with our stop in Stavanger so it is off to bed for the night.

Goodnight from the Disney Magic!
