Guernsey

A wonderful day for our last day on the ship in Guernsey.  A beautiful morning as we come into port.

Today we are on a port adventure to take us around the island in this 62 year old bus.  Her name is Twinkle.  Sometimes you don't think you are going to get up the hill, but we never had to get out and push.  Our driver is Dave.  Born and raised on the island, he has lived here his whole life.  Very knowledgeable and a great host!

We first go to The Guernsey Folk Museum and view the history.

The first sewing machine on display from 1870.

Dolls made with beads

Stopped in the cafe and had some warm apple cobbler and ice cream.  Delicious!

In the cafe they had hanging stuffed animals.

I knew they would have Disney ones and they did not disappoint.  Guess Disney belongs in the Folk Museum in Guernsey too!

The Tomato arrived in Europe in 1870.  In Guernsey they actually had the Guernsey tomato.  The tomato industry reached commercial levels by the 1870's.  They were shipped to England.  In 1904 they were exporting over 7,000 tons of tomatoes each year.  Between 1940 and 1945 however, the tomato export stopped completely with the German invasion of the Channel Islands.

By 1946 traffic was again increased as island tomato cultivation began to build back up to pre-war levels.  By the following year over 6,606,697 baskets of tomatoes were exported.

The park and grounds at the Folk Art Musuem:

The manor house on the property which was given to Gurnsey and is now a retirement home.

 Fort Hommet

The roads are very narrow and the tractor has to pull over so we can make it past each other.

A final stop atop the hills at a hotel and restaurant where we enjoyed traditional scones and tea.  They were yummy!

That's our ship in the background!

Zoomed in!

Met a nice lady walking her dog.  He was real fun.

Me and Christine.  Christine lives in Belgium.  Met her and her wonderful husband a few years ago in Europe on a Disney Cruise (imagine that!)

The Guernsey cow!

Bus to bus, someone has to give way!

Til We Meet Again Dinner (that would be tomorrow for me!)

Then it is off to the Walt Disney Theater for the 10:15 PreMEAR at sea of Finding Dory!  It did not disappoint, it was a fun movie.  Will probably see it again next week!

Then it is off to pack up things as I am moving to another stateroom with my kids for the next cruise.

This has been an awesome cruise.  Received lots of great FE gifts, met lots of wonderful people, and the time went way too fast.

Until next time, Goodnight from the Disney Magic!
